About Us

  1. What is Bujinkan

    The Bujinkan is an international martial arts organization based in Japan and headed by Masaaki Hatsumi. It is best known for its association with Ninjutsu. The system taught by this group, called Bujinkan Budō Taijutsu, and consists of nine separate martial arts traditions.

    Definitions

    Bujinkan (武神館) - This is the name of the organization that Soke Hatsumi created, "The Hall of the Divine Warrior."

    Bujinkan Budo(武神館 武道) - The Warrior fighting art method unique to the Bujinkan.

    Taijutsu (体術) - Body movement used in aspects of unarmed fighting.

    Ninpo (忍法) - Higher Order or concept of Ninjutsu.   

  2. What is Ninjutsu

    Ninjutsu is the ancient art of the ninja shadow warriors of Japan. It is a unique method of thinking and movement that allows the user to create an endless supply of effective counters to any given defence situation. This is unique to Ninjutsu.

    Ninjutsu is a complete fighting system of Physical, mental and spiritual development to the student.

    Ninjutsu techniques range from locks, throws, ground work, multiple attacks and weaponry.

  3. About the Bujinkan Peterborough (Tengu Shadows) Dojo

    Bujinkan Peterborough (Tengu Shadows) Dojo was started up on Monday 23rd April 2012 by Rick Pridmore.

    The Dojo is owned and run by Shidoshi Rick Pridmore (6th Dan)

    The Peterborough Dojo is registered, licensed, insured and trains under the authority of Soke Masaaki Hatsumi (34th Grandmaster) of Bujinkan Budo in Japan.

    Bujinkan Peterborough (Tengu Shadows) Dojo is the sister Dojo to Bujinkan Ely also run by Rick Pridmore and Cambridge Dojo run by Rick's instructor, Jake Sharpstone (13th Dan). Jake has visited Japan 10 times and trained with the Art's masters and still continues to do so.

  1. What to wear

    If you have a Gi, that’ll do fine to start with. If you don’t, then a t-shirt and tracksuit bottoms will also do to start off with.

  2. How much does the class cost

    Your first session will be free, after that it's £5 per class.

    Membership costs are £10 a year

    Insurance fees are £15 a year

  3. How old do I have to be

    At the moment we do not accept students under the age of sixteen. However this may change in the future.

  4. Some useful phrases

    "Shikin Haramitsu Daikomyo” –

    Everything holds the start of understanding. Every encounter is sacred and could present the one potential key to the perfection of the great universal enlightenment we seek.

    This is the phrase said at the start and end of class.

    "Onegaishimasu" –Literally, “Please assist me”

    "Domo Arigato Gozaimashita" - "Thank you for what happened

    This is phrase is said at the end of class.
